Our 1st chairman Winfried Hühn, who had been in office as a founding member since 2008, passed away last Saturday after a long illness. He was 52 years old.
With the death of Winni, as he was fondly called, wheelchair basketball in Cologne loses a personality with a lot of creative power. In gratitude for his commitment and his services to our club, we have to say goodbye to him surprisingly despite his serious illness. Winni first joined our original club RSC Cologne as a player and accompanied our successful way to the 1st Bundesliga until we set up independently as RBC Köln 99ers in 2008. He was significantly involved in the implementation and was able to pave the way for us through his previous legal knowledge. With his commitment to the members in the club, he always put himself in the service of the club and also fought passionately for it.
Winni was not only an active member in sports, but he was also there when his help was needed at events and functions. It was always a matter of the heart for Winni to put his drive and energy into the sport of wheelchair basketball.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family. We wish his relatives much strength to bear this heavy loss. His death tears a big gap in the 99ers family. In agreement with his relatives, there will be a minute of silence in memory of Winfried Hühn at the 99ers‘ next Bundesliga home game on 3.12. against Rhine River Rhinos.
